Staff Picks: April 2018

This month's Staff Picks include fine art from artists Erté, Joe Mancuso and Don Weller, as well as two beautiful pieces of jewelry. Read on to learn more about what our staff are loving this month!

Erté, Morning Day

Michael’s choice for April is a lithograph by famed artist Erté entitled Morning Day. “The Art Deco era is my favorite, and Erté is widely considered as the father of the Art Deco design movement especially in fashion, graphic arts, jewelry & sculptural designs,” Michael says. “This particular lithograph uniquely captures the essence of his fashion & graphic design sense. Interesting fact; Erté’s real name is Romain de Tirtoff. Erté is the French pronunciation of his initials R & T.”

Joe Mancuso, Prelude to Evening

This pastel painting by Joe Mancuso is Misty’s choice for this month. “The sunset glow in this pastel is captivating,” she says. “This would be such a beautiful reminder of the Central Coast landscape to someone who visited, or moved from, the area. It just makes you want to sit back and relax with a glass of wine at the end of the day.”

Jabel Diamond Slide Pendant and Omega Collar

Staff member Kathy has chosen a diamond slide necklace. “In my opinion, this is the perfect necklace for the California Central Coast lifestyle. It can be worn with jeans and a silk blouse but would look great for a formal occasion as well. The diamonds are clearly of high quality with a G color and VS clarity grade. This is a necklace you would never want to take off!”

Don Weller, Carter and the Black

Gallery curator Judith has chosen a watercolor by Don Weller titled Carter and the Black. “Don is a master when it comes to executing a watercolor painting,” Judith says. “He knows the life style of the cowboy and work that they are handling, whether it be the pleasure of overlooking the beautiful land, or stirring up dust at the scene of a branding or roping. Don applies his technical skills of illustration to the subject that he loves, and does it perfectly!”

2.21 CTW Platinum Diamond Pendant and Chain

Vida’s choice for April is a beautiful vintage diamond pendant. “This is a spectacular diamond pendant with 146 diamonds that could have been worn to a party at Jay Gatsby’s ocean front mansion,” Vida says. “It is Art Nouveau in design and hangs on a delicate chain with one more diamond for good measure. All you need is a flowing silk cocktail dress and you will be all set.”
