Description
Antique Bourgeois pair of African dancer bronze sculptures, circa 1863. This antique bronze pair of sculptures depict African dancers and are both signed Bourgeois, who is known for his realistic bronzes. These are original castings. The fife player and dancer make the perfect pair.
Berman is the highest expert of bronze evaluation and rarely gives such praise. He says in his book about the male entitled Charmeur De Serpents, "Agile muscular African dances in rhythm to the tune he plays on primitive fife as he charms asp coiled in striking range. For grace, realism and composition this piece is near perfection." Note the fife is attached to the mouth but loose in the hand. Do not wiggle the flute.
