About Junghans

Junghans und Tobler was founded in 1861 by Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law Jakob Zeller-Tobler. Junghans grew rapidly and was the largest clock manufacturer in the world by 1903. In 1927 the company started producing wristwatches, creating both watches and clocks for both the military and civilian markets. Starting in the 1950s, Max Bill, a Bauhaus-trained designer created many products for Junghans which the company has continued to release. Many of their best-selling items today were based on his designs. In 1961, after 100 years of business, they had grown to producing 20,000 clocks and watches a day. Junghans served as the official timekeeper for the 1972 Summer Olympics and in the late 80's introduced the first radio-controlled table clock.
