Antique English William Logsdail architectural oil painting, dated 1880. This oil on canvas painting by William Logsdail (1859-1944) is a finely executed architectural painting depicting a building archway with a woman at the door and a beggar on the cobblestone street. The painting has a very tight and realistic style. The highly ornate gilt frame has been beautifully restored.

About William Logsdail

Logsdail exhibited regularly at the famed Royal Academy. His architectural painting entitled "The Piazza of St Marks Venice" was judged to be the painting of the year in 1885 by the Royal Academy. The painting was recently auctioned off with a pre-auction estimate of nearly $1,000,000. Logsdail was a prolific artist in landscape & portrait genres, but was initially trained, and excelled in, architectural design. His works are exhibited at all of the finest venues.
