Antique Victorian mourning brooch, circa 1850. This mourning brooch has woven hair in an oval pinchbeck mounting. Pinchbeck is a form of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, that is made to closely resemble the look of gold. The metal was created by Christopher Pinchbeck in the 1830s to allow ordinary people to afford the look of gold.
